“WIP” (A Musical Parody of “WAP”)

Original Context:

This was a couple months back at the start of the school year when Cardi B’s “WAP” was still a huge phenomenon in the music world. One day, my friend Young Soo Kim got bored in class and decided he wanted to write a musical parody of “WAP” that was school friendly and that students could relate to, so he used WIP (work in progress) as the center of his parody.

After sharing the first few lines of the song with me, I was inspired to finish the rest of the lyrics, which unfortunately had to be delayed by months because IB is pain. But after being nagged by my Buddy! boss to finish the lyrics because she wanted to see the finished product, I’ll be posting the final version of the lyrics here on Buddy! Of course, the song is edited to make it school-appropriate :). Once again, I’d like to thank Young Soo Kim for being the origin and mastermind behind such an inspirational yet frivolous idea (please note that this was not written by me in that it was Young Soo Kim who hijacked my computer and threatened me to include it or else I will get sued for copyright). Please enjoy!

I said, certified geek
Dragon time a week
Work in progress
Make that study game weak, woo

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, you messing with the high school office

Bring a pencil and a chair for this work in progress

Give me everything you got for this work in progress

Do your work, freshie, it’s a race
EE, CAS, and TOK
Put this homework right in your face
Work that brain for those higher grades

Test on test, I wanna cry
All of these papers, I’m dying inside

Gimme some help, my brain is fried
This doc is over, my wifi died
Can I push for next week
Doesn’t matter still can’t sleep
They’re gonna mark that grade so low I’ll end up disowned on the streets (eh)
No routine, that’s foreseen
Keep on chugging, that caffeine
Wasting time, browsing memes
Oh let me tell you how I got this 3 (ayy, ayy)

Finals due, Orals due
Help get me out of school
Quick, turn in ‘fore your parents hit you with a shoe

Hand em’ in at twelve-o-one,
Can’t ever expect to get some sleep
You have to run now
‘fore you have McRoberts catch you eek.
Go freak out, bite your skin
Ask for seven while you cry a bit (while you cry a bit)

You’re really never gonna get through the flames

They’ve ‘ready seen your paper ’fore you came

Now get your tears n’ your brain for this work in progress

You bought an iPad and a tutor for this work in progress

Paid my tuition just to drown me in this work in progress

Now cry in pain just to finish all this work in progress

Look, I need all sevens, cannot go lower
Need a good IA, and 5 others
Not a certificate, need a full diploma
With a job in it, need to feel successful
They’ve got some tips, then that’s where I’m headed

They’re too smart, just cannot apply it

Got some tests, my tears gonna wet it
Got into some clubs, gotta stay committed.

I don’t wanna fail, I’m will prevail
I’m gonna try, I’ll go email
All I got are two brain cells left,
and they’re already ready to go bail.

I’m playing some sports, does that help my credit.

I’m goin’ insane and can’t locate my brain
I’m writtin’ that essay cus the deadline’s behind me

I hid all my homework, now they tryna find me

Sir I don’t wanna do this, hand cramps, leaflets

Switched my major, now all these class useless

Got me off my knees, nothing to believe in

Never tried to hide, but IB lookin’ for victims

In study hall, it’s the time for sleepin’

Then at one am, we be up and creepin’

Big A stands for, lost endeavor
I could fail a class before I ever enter

If I don’t pass, I’ll collapse

I’ve probably gone died, but I like the vibe

When getting grades they ask “Whatchu get?”

When I get home, my name’ll be on a grave (eh)

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah you messing with the high school office

Bring a pencil and a chair for this work in progress

Give me everything ya got for this work in progress

Now get a slip, break your hip,

That’s some work in progress

Now get a pencil and a grip,

That’s some work in progress

I’m talking WIP, WIP, WIP
that’s some work in progress
All your grades are bouta drop

That’s some work in progress, huh.
