How To Get A Hot Date In 3 Easy Steps (with pictures) - WikiHow
The ability to attract a mate is a highly coveted ability starting with the first organisms with sexual selection all the way to mode humans. Biological mechanisms in our brains allow us to filter and find desirable mates at unfathomable speeds through a variety of factors. However, what if I told you there was a way to hack this selection process? Hi, my name is Eric Liu and I’ll be interviewing several experts in the field of pickup to find the secret techniques that allow them to get a hot date.
Push-pull
Push and pull, hot and cold, the most basic principle of flirting when applied effectively can be quite devastating. Here I’ll be interviewing a dating coach who, in his own words, “picks up girls like the wind picks up leaves.” Jeremy Ng (11) is here to share us his insight on the push-pull.
E: Jeremy, how would describe your attractiveness and how does it play a role in your pickup?
J: You see, attractiveness is very subjective. To some I might look like Ryan Reynolds, but to others (though very few), I might look like a pile of garbage. But I would say I am rather average, neither pleasing nor displeasing to the eye.
E: …
J: What’s the second question? Oh how does it play a role in my pickup? Though currently I am not actively looking for someone, occasionally, the ladies start swooping in.
“To some I might look like Ryan Reynolds, but to others (though very few), I might look like a pile of garbage.”
Flirtologist Jeremy Ng, despite his seemingly average appearance, is apparently able to attract all walks of life like a magnet. Men and Women alike are simply captivated by Jeremy. But how can this be? This is because of the push-pull.
E: Jeremy, what do you know about the push-pull technique?
J: Ah, I am quite familiar. It is a technique. How would I describe it? It is a technique to allow the other person to fall in love.
E: Jeremy can you give some example scenarios in which you might employ push-pull tactics?
J: Listen, it’s quite simple alright? You express interest with a potential partner and you follow it up with disinterest. As the name suggests, the push-pull is like a cat-and-mouse game of interest. Say that I have a lady that I’m interested in. When I talk to her I might compliment her and say, “Hey Lady, you look pretty nice today.” Then in a very SLICK manner, I will proceed to demonstrate disinterest.
Evidently, Jeremy’s example may not be the most tactful demonstration; however, the principles that he is applying are quite noteworthy. Show interest and then don’t show interest. The push-pull works for two reasons: the chase and loss aversion. As homo sapiens, we love the chase! Things that are hard for us to obtain are the ones that we enjoy the most when we finally get them. Bill Gates doesn’t feel a thing when he finds a dollar on the street simply because, in his eyes, the value is hyper-inflated. Many people make the mistake of showering interest and being too needy which makes their affection hyper-inflated. If you intermittently show interest then it will be far more effective than if you needlessly shower them with affection. But there’s another side to this.
“As homo sapiens, we love the chase!”
It is a common cliché for a character in literature to only realize their feelings when their crush is dating someone else, but could this be grounded in reality? Loss aversion is a phenomenon that makes all the difference. If you lost 1 dollar vs if you won 1 dollar, you would feel worse about losing the 1 dollar than gaining the 1 dollar. By that same token, the loss of affection from a potential love hits harder than the joy you feel from them showing their affection. Push-pull utilizes this principle and teases the prospect of a romantic relationship. Perhaps there is a spark of romantic feelings but said crush has yet to register it. Through loss aversion, the impact is greater and they might realize they liked you all along.
2. FORD Method
Can’t think of what to say in front of your crush? Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us! Dating coach William Li (11) apparently also has this problem but through his conversational ingenuity is able to work around it with an easy technique.
E: William, what do you know about the FORD Method?
William: I don’t know what that is.
Unfortunately William was reluctant to share his knowledge. Perhaps flirting expert Jane Sun (11) may share her expertise on the matter.
E: Jane, just what is the FORD method?
Jane: OMG Wait you can’t put me under that kind of pressure. [The] FORD method is a foolproof way to get your crush to talk to you. The main idea is to use four conversation starters: their Family, their Occupation, their Recreational activities, and their Dreams.
E: Excellent explanation, Jane.
J: Please be quiet. I haven’t completed my explanation yet. It’s best to get as personal as possible -- no worries if it’s your first conversation. Extensive research has shown that the best couples are the ones who have no secrets, so you can get a head start with FORD. If you want a more detailed explanation you can buy my book “Jane’s Jubilant Journey into your crush’s heart <3”.
“It’s best to get as personal as possible”
Jane was kind enough to sponsor this article so I’m legally obligated to make the following statement.

3. Be yourself!
While this might sound cliché and something your elementary school teacher taught you, at the end of the day, the best thing to do to get a hot date is to simply be yourself. No one wants to go on a date with a phony. Everyone likes confidence, and to hide your personality amongst the masses like a sheep is the epitome of insecurity. All of the experts above have a distinct ethos because they are uniquely themselves. Be unique! Be different! Be yourself! Hi this is Eric Liu from 11th grade and this is how to get a hot date in 3 easy steps (with pictures).
